Our Year 8 Science students have been in Primary School this week teaching Year 4 students all about ‘sound’.

I write this newsletter following our first inaugural event in our new auditorium. It has that new smell, like when you get a new car. Everything in it is fresh, clean, and untouched. The paint is fresh, the carpet is clean and has that lovely springy feel to it. The doors are all untouched, not a mark on them. I can’t wait to see the first production take place next week – Bugsy Malone – what a treat we are all in for!

In honour of the Head of State, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed (May God protect him), and his slogan "Today for Tomorrow," our students have been working on small projects that support the vision of the United Arab Emirates in achieving sustainability. We have integrated the sustainability project with the topic of environmental issues in Arabic language classes for non-native speakers.

Last week, Key Stage 2 & 3 boys had their Celebration of Swim! They've dedicated themselves to refining their swimming skills and personal survival abilities, and their hard work paid off. 

This weekend, is the celebration of the BSME Dance Festival 2023 at Cranleigh School. This year the BSME theme is ‘A Night at The Movies’.

Last week, our excited Year 8's spent their morning getting creative with Waves. As part of their Year 8 topic of learning Waves, Students worked together in their different classes to create their very own wave machine.

Congratulations to Marta in 3B, who received a Headteacher's Award, for securing the runner-up position in the Under 8’s category in the prestigious Global Campus NAE-UNICEF Visual Arts Competition with her ‘All the Children of the World submission’.

Yes, boys can dance too and on Wednesday, 17th May boys from Year 4 – Year 7 had the delight to work with Nader Musharbash, a male professional dancer and choreographer to create a dance for the annual dance production in June.

This term, girls in Year 3 – Year 9 have been studying a dance unit of work. Ranging from the roaring 1920’s of the start of the Lindy Hip, to musical theatre with Bugsy Malone.

Robots and Humans I’ve dedicated my career to improving young peoples’ intelligence only to discover that the future is in fact not real intelligence at all, but the artificial type. It’s a little disheartening if I’m honest, not that AI has been created, but at how quickly the human race seems to have given up on itself in the race against the robots.  It is 26 years since the Deep Blue computer beat Gary Kasparov at chess, at which point the end of the world for humans was confidently predicted, but here we still are with our opposable thumbs and a pretty well-honed survival instinct.

On Tuesday, Early Years teachers were very excited to welcome some of their new children starting at BIS Abu Dhabi in the Autumn Term.

On Friday, 5th May, our Year 12 students had the opportunity to showcase their hard work and dedication towards their Extended Essays (EE).

I start today’s newsletter celebrating BIS Abu Dhabi being shortlisted by Which School Advisor for ‘Best IB Blended Curriculum school in the UAE’.

Yes, boys can dance too. Last year, 22 boys from Year 5 and 6 worked with Nader Musharbash, a male professional dancer and choreographer to create a dance for the BSME Dance online Festival.

As part of our commitment to preparing students for life after school, we are excited to announce that all Year 10 students will be participating in a 5-day work experience placement from Monday, 5th to Friday, 9th June.  Prior to Covid, this was an annual feature of our school calendar, and we are delighted to be able to offer this valuable learning opportunity once again.

Congratulations to all our students who recently undertook the challenge to create an artwork inspired by the key advocacy theme of Sustainable Development Goal: 4 Quality Education set by our Global Campus team for the 2023 Visual Arts Competition.

Between 25th-27th April, BIS Abu Dhabi Primary students competed in the ultimate test of mental agility!

Max is not your typical Year 7 student. He has a passion that burns brighter than most, a passion that has taken him to the track time and time again.
