MOVING WITH PURPOSE

From gymnastics to aquatics and football to tee-ball, every BIS Hanoi student experiences the joy of movement through a wide variety of activities in their Physical Education (PE) lessons. After school, they can take their skills further through competitive teams and co-curricular activities that promote both growth and excellence.

As proud BIS Lionhearts, our students play with courage, integrity, and team spirit. Through every challenge, they build the confidence, determination, resilience, and leadership that define success in sport and in life, qualities that shape not only strong athletes but also impressive university portfolios.

UNRIVALLED OPPORTUNITIES

BIS Hanoi students have the opportunity to compete on the world’s stage, representing our school with pride and passion. As a FOBISIA (Federation of British International Schools in Asia) member, our athletes travel across the region to take part in prestigious multi-sport tournaments and international swimming events. Locally, our Lionhearts shine in the Hanoi Activities Conference (HAC), competing in basketball, football, athletics, and more alongside other top international schools in Hanoi.

As part of the Nord Anglia Education family, our students also compete in the NAE Games and benefit from the latest collaboration with the world-renowned IMG Academy, gaining access to elite coaching, exclusive sports camps in Florida and development opportunities.

To further enhance their skills, we partner with leading local providers such as The Performance Lab (TPL) for advanced basketball training and more, ensuring every student, from emerging athletes to seasoned competitors, can reach their potential.

WE ARE BIS LIONHEARTS

Every match, race, and cheer echoes the spirit of our Lionheart community. Sport connects us, students, teachers, and families, in moments of excitement, courage, and pride. It teaches us to celebrate effort, support one another, and lead with heart. From friendly house competitions to shared victories, sport reminds us that we’re all part of something bigger.

House Spirit
At the start of each year, our new BIS Hanoi students and staff are sorted into one of four Houses. Named after Vietnamese cities: Hanoi, Saigon, Hue, and Dalat, our Houses foster belonging, school spirit, and friendly competition. Students earn points not only through sports days and competitions, but also for effort, kindness, and collaboration.

OUR PE CURRICULUM

Movement is a core part of our curriculum from age 2 to 18, with students completing core PE alongside their IGCSEs and the activity component of CAS in the IBDP. Our Physical Education curriculum across the school blends traditional sport-based learning with concept-based approaches, ensuring a broad, balanced, and meaningful experience. This holistic approach ensures students thrive physically, emotionally, and personally. It supports growth across multiple areas:
  • Physical development: building skills, coordination, fitness, and physical literacy
  • Emotional growth: fostering confidence, resilience, and self-awareness
  • Character and personal development: encouraging teamwork, leadership, and ethical decision-making
  • Lifelong engagement: empowering students with the motivation, confidence, and competence to be active for life

LEVEL UP: SPORTS AT IGCSE, IBDP & BEYOND

At BIS Hanoi Secondary School, students with a passion for sport can choose to study Physical Education at IGCSE and Sports, Exercise, and Health Science as part of the IB Diploma Programme. At these levels, BIS Hanoi students explore both the physical and theoretical sides of sport, including human physiology, biomechanics, psychology, and nutrition. These pathways prepare students for future study and careers in fields such as sports science, kinesiology, physiotherapy, biomechanics, and nutrition.

Beyond qualifications, competing as part of a team or training to reach new personal bests helps students build impressive university portfolios. They showcase not only their sporting ability but also the determination, discipline, and time management skills that drive excellence, both on and off the field.
