At Léman International School Chengdu, we believe education extends far beyond the classroom. Through meaningful service opportunities, students develop empathy, compassion and a genuine sense of social responsibility while making a positive impact in the local community.
Our Social Purpose programme encourages students to build lasting relationships with people of different generations and backgrounds. By taking part in community initiatives, students learn that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference.
Supporting the Elderly with Care and Compassion
One of our long-standing community partnerships is with Chengdu Longquanyi Jinxin Chronic Disease Hospital, where students regularly spend time with elderly residents.
Whether creating arts and crafts together, sharing conversations, celebrating birthdays or donating essential items such as clothing and mobility equipment, students bring companionship, warmth and dignity to those who benefit from regular social interaction.
These experiences help students understand the value of respect, empathy and human connection while demonstrating how consistent acts of service can brighten the lives of others.
Creating Inclusive Experiences for Children with Additional Needs
Students also have opportunities to support children with additional needs through inclusive community activities.
By participating in creative workshops, outdoor games, music and shared experiences, our students learn to celebrate diversity, encourage inclusion and build friendships based on understanding, kindness and mutual respect.
Our collaboration with UNICEF opens our students’ eyes and encourages them to develop their own ways of helping both local and global social needs. Each year, our students support hundreds of causes through UNICEF activities and by connecting their actions to the United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which support the UN Sustainable Development 2030 agenda.
Our students respond to the annual global challenge set by UNICEF and an annual trip to join seminars, workshops, and speaking opportunities at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) at the Headquarters of the UN in New York. This enables our students to have thrilling and impressive opportunities to engage with and influence world leaders at both local and global levels to make the biggest impact.
Additionally, Léman has a long history of participating in and leading local and global Model United Nations conferences. Our school MUN club that meets weekly, and we host our own MUN event annually.
At LIS Chengdu, all our students participate in our house system – a traditional part of school life from the British education system, where each student belongs to an exciting ‘house’ of peers across year groups, which each compete during sporting and academic events. Each house gives our students a sense of identity, builds their character, and encourages them to develop their teamwork and social skills within the community.
Significantly, charity work is a part of the house system as our students collaborate to support social causes they are passionate about. All four houses sponsor at least four different charities throughout the school year.
